Email Lists
Stay Informed!
Currently there are three email-list based mechanisms from which you can receive and share information.
The Announce List
The Burning Man Announce-list, also known as The Jack Rabbit Speaks, is a weekly update distributed by our Mistress of Communication, Maid Marian. Currently, over 2200 individuals receive this missive, and the list grows by about 100 names a week. This is the MOST up-to-date communication, and is a one-way distribution list with posts no more than twice a week.
To join, send an email to bman-announce-request@burningman.com, with the word "subscribe" in the body of the message. Your initial request will require a confirmation response in order to protect you from unwanted email.
The Event 1997 List
The Burning Man Event-97 list is an ideal source for posting questions, answers, thoughts and experiences directly related to Burning Man. All subscribers can post to this list, and light moderation keeps emails on-topic and the traffic at a reasonable level. We encourage you to join this growing community and post any relevant questions or experiences. This list has an option for interested readers to receive the daily digest only.
To subscribe to either list send mail to:
The Burning Man 1997 Event List: bman97-request@marketsmart.com
The Burning Man 1997 Event Digest: bman97-digest-request@marketsmart.com
The body of the message should include the word "subscribe" followed by your email address. The server will send back a unique confirmation message to the address with specific instructions on how to complete and confirm your subscription.
The Chorus List
A very important part of the Burning Man community, particularly to those that live in the San Francisco Bay Area, is THE Burning Man Email list also know as The Chorus list, named after the server on which it resides. This list has been functioning on one server or another for nearly 3 years. Traffic can be from 30 to as many as 80 posts a day (particularly after a local Burning Man related event), with topics ranging from obviously to only remotely related to Burning Man. At first glance, one can assume the Burning Man event to be the primary common thread among members, but through endless parties, camping events, and beach burns list members have created a community bound by deeper ties. It is from this list that the Villages concept sprung, and the resulting Blue Light Village. In addition, theme camps such as the Drum Circle and this year's Deep Space Astronomy camp have been born from this list of less than 200 individuals. Membership is open to all that can handle the traffic. To subscribe please do the following: send a message to burnman-list-admin@chorus.com, use "subscribe" as your subject, and subscribe with your email address in the body. This list is administered by Eric Pouyoul.
